- This is currently a temporary contract until 21st July 2029, due to thisposition being pupil specific, if the pupil leaves the school during this timethe post would cease.

Unity EducationTrust are recruiting for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our team atKings Oak Academy as soon as possible, supporting a deaf pupil on a 1:1 basis.
We are seeking aversatile, resilient, and committed individual with experience or interest insupporting children with Special Educational Needs, particularly those who aredeaf or have hearing impairments. The successful candidate will work closelywith the class teacher and wider staff team to support the pupil's learning,communication, and social development.
The role willinvolve using clear communication strategies, which may include visualsupports, gestures, and/or British Sign Language (BSL), to ensure the pupil canfully access learning and feel included in all aspects of school life.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 support tailored to the needs of a deaf pupil
- Support communication using appropriate strategies (e.g. BSL, visualcues, clear speech, and gestures)
- Assist with access to learning activities and classroom participation
- Promote inclusion, independence, and confidence
- Support positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
- Build strong, trusting relationships with the pupil, acting as apositive role model
- Work collaboratively with teachers, parents/carers, and externalprofessionals
What We Are Looking For
- Experience supporting children with SEND (experience with deaf pupilsdesirable but not essential)
- Awareness or willingness to learn communication approaches for deafchildren (e.g. BSL)
- Patient, adaptable, and proactive approach
- Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to inclusion
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively to individual needs
Please note thatthe role may involve some physical activity, including supporting intimatecare, engaging with pupils in play (including floor-based activities), andresponding promptly to escalated situations. This does not remove ourobligation to make reasonable adjustments where appropriate.
