King’s Leadership Academy Wavertree is a new secondary school in one of Liverpool’s most challenged communities, now moving into its second year. With only Year 7 and Year 8 on roll, we are growing carefully and ambitiously. We are seeking an organised, practical and enthusiastic Science Technician to support high-quality practical learning across the academy. This is primarily a Science Technician role. During the first academic year, the successful candidate will also provide some support in Art and Design Technology, within their confidence and ability. The majority of the role will remain focused on Science, where curriculum need is greatest. Training will be provided where needed.

The Role

As Science Technician, you will prepare, organise and maintain equipment, chemicals, materials and specialist resources so teachers can deliver safe, effective practical lessons. You will help keep laboratories, prep rooms and practical learning spaces well organised, safe and ready for use. You will also support stock control, equipment checks, safe storage and relevant health and safety procedures. In the first year, you will provide light‑touch support for Art and DT, such as preparing materials, organising tools and helping maintain safe, tidy practical spaces. As the school currently has only two year groups, this will be manageable and sensibly balanced.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is a Science Technician by trade, or who has strong experience in a laboratory, workshop or practical environment. You will be calm, methodical, reliable and safety‑conscious. You do not need to be an expert in Art or DT, but you should be willing to support, learn and work flexibly as the academy grows. We are particularly interested in someone who:

  • Has experience in a laboratory, science, workshop or practical setting
  • Understands health and safety, safe storage and careful preparation
  • Can organise equipment, resources and stock effectively
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Communicates clearly with staff and students
  • Is willing to support Art and DT where needed
  • Is open to further training, including COSHH, CLEAPSS or First Aid

Why Join Us?

You will be joining a growing academy with an ambitious, knowledge‑rich curriculum and a strong commitment to practical learning. You will also benefit from:

  • A Trust that prioritises staff wellbeing
  • A supportive, family‑oriented working environment
  • Professional development and relevant training
  • Clear career pathways across a growing Trust
  • BUPA Employee Assistance Programme
  • Optional Benenden Health membership
  • Generous occupational sick pay and family‑friendly policies
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • The chance to help shape a new school as it grows
