Overview
Reporting directly to the Food Safety Manager, the Food Safety Supervisor will provide excellent leadership to a team of Food Safety Technicians and Foremen to ensure that the facility and all its food processing equipment is kept in a sanitary condition while upholding a safe work environment. Employees in this position may interact with a manager several times a week, to receive guidance and feedback. Some non-routine activities may require a managerβs advance approval, but routine decisions within the general scope of the role may be made independently.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for selecting, training, coaching, and mentoring team members
- Organizes and conducts regular performance and goal-setting meetings
- Build and maintain working relationships with vendors and suppliers
- Enforces Federal, State, and Baking Industries Health and Safety regulations
- Promotes safety in the work area through awareness discussions, trainings and by modeling safe behaviors, focused heavily on Chemical Safety, PPE, and exposure risks
- Maintains all required documentation (Pest Control, MSS, Chemical Inventory/Usage/ Titrations, Audits, Daily Tasks, etc.)
- Align with all systems, FSQS Policies, Departmental SOPs, SSOPs, and Safety Policies.
- Regularly inspects the facility for areas of opportunity
- Performs yearly audits of SSOPs to ensure they are accurate and up to date
- Leads and participates in investigations and Root Cause Analyses RCAs and Continuous Improvement CI initiatives
- Provides leadership during emergencies or natural disasters, and accounts for all personnel
- Executes all functions as defined by Safe Quality Food standards SQF, reporting all quality and food safety concerns/issues to QA and Production Leadership. Provides completed CAPAs as necessary
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of this role
Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE)
- Required β Bachelorβs degree from an accredited 4-year college or equivalent relevant experience
- Required β Minimum 5 years of experience in Bakery Sanitation or Meat Sanitation required
- Required β Minimum 2 years of experience directly leading salaried and/or hourly team members
- Required β Understanding of basic microbiology, OSHA compliance, food laws, pest control, HACCP, and baking industry technical procedures
- Required β Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Required β Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals written in English
- Required β Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measurement using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Required β Proficiency with all MS Office Applications Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Preferred β Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees
- Preferred β Experience with OSHA compliance, Food Laws, Pest Control, HACCP, and baking industry technical procedures
- Preferred β Bilingual English/Spanish
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (JOB SKILLS, ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE)
- Expert knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safe usage thereof
- Expert knowledge of HACCP and SQF programs
- Proficient understanding of basic financial skills and understanding
- Strong verbal and written communication skills β ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization
Physical Demands
The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, taste, or smell. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 – 25 pounds, and occasionally more than 50 pounds with assistance from co-worker and/or mechanic devices. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee will be handling items that may be very hot. Noise level is usually moderate. Must be available to work overtime, nights, weekends, and Holidays.
