Duties and Responsibilities
- To be responsible for tracking students’ progress, including organising Study Plans and tutorials; to then analyse and report on the data emerging.
- To manage teachers to ensure they are conducting tutorials with students in class and monitor any issues arising.
- To be responsible for the development and delivery of the English Plus courses.
- To manage the processes relating to placement testing and student inductions.
- To be responsible for classing students in Special Interest Groups and changing students’ Special Interest Groups as appropriate.
- To oversee the benchmarking process.
- To liaise with student services over non-classroom matters such as the activity programme.
- To observe teachers as directed and follow up as appropriate regarding teachers’ needs.
- To participate in the teacher development programme by assisting with or leading training workshops.
- Liaise with other managers to help the college achieve its strategic aims and the Kings Strategic Vision.
- To induct and monitor new teachers, as directed.
- To monitor classroom appearance, resources and facilities.
- To teach and cover as required.
- To ensure suitable reception cover at all EFL Reception areas.
- To draw up timetables; opening and closing classes as necessary to maintain class average sizes.
- To move students as appropriate.
- To recruit and employ temporary teachers, deal with teacher payments.
- To plan and lead staff meetings.
- To manage all members of the EFL department and develop schemes for CPD.
- To manage EFL co-ordination and administrative resources.
- To provide an academic counselling service to students, assisting them with class choice, independent study, examination administration, etc.
- To develop Schemes of Work, as directed.
- To support and promote the use of new materials, resources and technology.
- To manage all EFL processes to ensure Ofsted and British Council compliance.

Person Specification

- University degree – ideally in English or another language.
- Level 7 qualification such as DELTA, DipTESOL (or equivalent).
- Native speaker competence in English.
- Experience and knowledge of contemporary life and culture in the UK.
- Minimum 5 years teaching experience.
- Previous experience in an Assistant Director of Studies, Senior Teacher or administrative role.
- IT literacy as the role involves extensive use of Microsoft Office programs, the college database system CLASS, information management system (ISAMS), and other computer systems the college may acquire.
- Desirably, QTS status or a relevant PGCE Level 3 Safeguarding Children.
