We are seeking to appoint an outstanding musician and teacher of electric guitar, able to communicate a passion for contemporary music and to be an inspiration for our pupils in the fields of jazz, rock, and popular music from September 2025 or January 2026.
The successful candidate will continue to build on the existing programme of events, seek to expand the provision and numbers of pupils involved in bands, as well as oversee the development of all aspects of contemporary music in the school.
It is expected that the head of jazz and contemporary music will play a full and active role in the department, seeking to develop and inspire jazz, rock, and popular music playing across the 9-18 age range. They will work within the department to provide a range of opportunities and experiences for pupils from both junior and senior schools, liaising with the director of music and head of music in the junior school.
It is hoped that the candidate will also wish to be involved in the wider school community.
The post will suit someone who has:
- Expertise in teaching electric guitar, and an excellent knowledge of jazz, rock, and popular music
- A genuine interest in expanding our contemporary music programme
- An eagerness to inspire and support all pupils to flourish and reach their musical potential
- A desire to enrich the musical experience of pupils by supporting involvement in events, ensembles, and competitions related to contemporary music
- Strong pastoral instincts and a commitment to excellent pastoral care and safeguarding for all pupils
- An ability to work well with others
- A personal commitment to ongoing professional development
The following would be advantageous:
- Prior experience of teaching music in a secondary school environment, as a VMT or a teacher of music
