King\’s Centre for International Education and Languages (CIEL) is a recently established, cross-cutting centre dedicated to expanding King\’s educational reach. It unites three key areas – King\’s Foundations, Summer Programmes, and King\’s Language Centre – bringing together international pathway provision, pre-sessional programmes, pre-UG summer courses, undergraduate summer modules, undergraduate language modules, bespoke language programmes for the community and partners, and academic skills provision for all King\’s students.
Each of these areas are well established, respected and recognised within and beyond the King\’s community. About the role
CIEL is looking for a proactive and creative Engagement & Communications Manager to lead the centre\’s communications and stakeholder engagement on a strategic and operational level.
The postholder will drive initiatives to expand learning and educational opportunities at King\’s and reach broader audiences. They will manage internal and external communications, collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, and deliver high-quality strategic communications as an integral member of the CIEL Central Team.
The postholder will develop in-depth knowledge of the CIEL ecosystem, including its activities, networks and partner organisations to develop communication plans that align with CIEL\’s core objectives. They will coordinate comprehensive global engagement strategies to support student recruitment and diversity targets. Additionally, they will lead on the development of the annual programme brochures and promotional materials; support the applicant journey with open days, conversion events and engagement activities to optimise enrolment outcomes.
The postholder will collaborate in shaping and maintaining a cohesive and consistent brand narrative for CIEL across all content and campaigns. This includes overseeing brand-building initiatives, podcasts, videos, blogs, news stories and publications to enhance visibility and engagement. They will act as a key liaison between CIEL and the broader King\’s network of communication and marketing professionals ensuring alignment of messaging and the effective amplification of initiatives.
The successful candidate will bring extensive professional knowledge and expertise in crafting strategic and effective internal messaging to support strategy delivery, as well as creating engaging content tailored to a diverse audience of internal and external stakeholders. A dynamic and experienced professional with a strong track record in developing and delivering integrated communications strategies across various channels, they will play a key role in advancing CIEL\’s growth, fostering engagement and ensuring that stakeholders remain informed, connected and engaged.
This is a full time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level or equivalent with significant relevant experience in communications
- Experience of planning and implementing communication strategies and plans working with a wide range of stakeholders
- Experience of delivering effective cross-channel communication and CRM campaigns including offline, digital, and social media
- Experience and skill in creating and managing web content within a content management system and/or use of HTML with high level of digital literacy, desktop publishing, website and CMS tools, email marketing software
- Ability to produce effective content for a varied audience, across different channels in a timely fashion and evaluating their success
- Experience of using data sets to review marketing and communication performance, creating dashboards to measure and report on KPIs and evaluate new markets and products.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (including accurate grammar, spelling and punctuation), with faultless attention to detail and an ability to write and present to a variety of audiences
- Strong interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy and flexibility to work effectively with senior stakeholders and team members whilst still achieving the end result
Desirable criteria
- Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) qualified
- Experience of producing a variety of communication materials, including research, writing, editing and proofreading for print and digital communications
- Good understanding of the higher education landscape, experience in exercising strong judgement, awareness of the political context within which King\’s operates and its institutional objectives and strategies
- Self-motivated, results oriented and with a \’can do\’ attitude.
