About Us

The selected candidate will join Dr. Godwin Aleku\’s research team at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science, part of the School of Cancer and Pharmaceutical Sciences at King’s College London. Dr. Aleku’s biocatalysis and enzyme engineering group focuses on creating sustainable, enzyme-based methods for pharmaceutical synthesis and exploring the role of biocatalysis in drug discovery.

IPS offers a cutting-edge research environment that fosters interdisciplinary collaboration across chemical biology, medicinal chemistry, biosciences, and pharmaceutical sciences.

About The Role

We are seeking to appoint a postdoctoral research associate in biocatalysis to work on an EPSRC-funded project focused on developing enzymatic CO2-fixation platforms to support sustainable pharmaceutical synthesis.

The successful candidate will be involved in the enzyme discovery and characterisation of a large panel of novel biocatalysts for the sustainable synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates from carbon dioxide and biomass-derivable organic compounds. Promising enzyme candidates will be biochemically characterised, and their synthetic applicability will be explored. Directed evolution approaches will be employed to further improve the catalytic efficiency of promising enzymes to bring them to levels required for industrial application.

You should have a PhD (or have submitted your thesis) in Chemistry/Biological Sciences with a proven track record of working with enzymes and enzyme characterisation.

This is a full-time role, and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 30 April 2026.
