This role is based in the Department of Informatics within the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES), an internationally recognised centre for research in robotics, artificial intelligence, and human-centred computing.
You will join the Vision & Human-Robot Interaction (VHR) Lab, a multidisciplinary research group working at the intersection of robotics, machine learning, and human movement science. The labโs research focuses on developing intelligent, user-adaptive robotic systems that can operate robustly in real-world and clinical environments, with particular emphasis on wearable and assistive technologies.
About the role
This This Research Assistant role provides essential technical support for laboratory-based research activities within the Vision & Human-Robot Interaction Lab. The post holder will play a key role in maintaining, preparing, and operating experimental equipment and software used in wearable robotics and human motion analysis research. The role will involve supporting the setup, calibration, and running of laboratory experiments, including the preparation and configuration of sensors, data acquisition systems, and associated hardware and software components. The post holder will assist researchers and students during experimental sessions, ensuring that data collection procedures run smoothly and reliably. A significant aspect of the role is the integration, configuration, and troubleshooting of hardware and software systems, as well as maintaining accurate records of equipment, materials, experimental configurations, and data workflows.
This is a part-time post at 40% FTE (approximately 2 days per week), and you will be offered a fixed-term contract for 16 months, with an end date no later than 31st December 2028 when the project concludes.
The post holder will also contribute to ensuring that the laboratory environment is safe, organised, and compliant with health and safety requirements, providing guidance and support to users of laboratory equipment.
