King’s College London is an internationally renowned university with a distinguished history of delivering exceptional education and world‑class research. We are offering funded studentships in the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES) to study a PhD in one of our departments: Chemistry, Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics and Physics.

PhD studentships are offered in the fields of Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics: Disordered Systems/Financial Mathematics/Probability, Applied Mathematics: Theoretical Physics, Pure Mathematics, and Statistics. The NMES Graduate School is home to the Faculty’s PhD students. It delivers a training and events programme for all our PhD students that enables them to upskill and meet fellow students as part of our vibrant, supportive, and creative research community.

We are holding online open events for people who are interested in doing a PhD with us in the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES) at King’s. The NMES Graduate School event will introduce the faculty and the support and opportunities that both the NMES Graduate School and the King’s Doctoral College make available to PhD students, funding opportunities, admission tips and information for international applicants. The department events will include information about the different research areas PhD students in the department work on, what it is like to be a PhD student in the department, and what supervisors look for in a good PhD application.

Several different types of funded studentships are available across the Faculty, including Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Studentships, which are available in all of our departments (when applying please use code EPSRC2026-27), and Science and Technology Facilities Research Council (STFC) Studentships, which are available in the Departments of Mathematics and Physics (when applying please use code STFC2026-27). The studentships are funded for 3.5 or 4 years, depending on the project, there are also a limited number of international fee waivers for EPSRC or STFC Studentships available, plus a stipend bursary of £22,780 per annum, including London Allowance (the stipend bursary will rise each year to reflect the standard research council rates).

Other funded studentships are also available, including studentships that are sponsored by industry partners, ones offered by the various Centres of Doctoral Training the Faculty engages with, and studentships allocated to specific supervisors or NMES Research Centres. The faculty also welcomes applications from self‑funded students and supports them with a Research and Training Support Grant (RTSG) to support training, attending conferences and research‑related costs.

Applicants should refer to the entry requirements of their chosen PhD programme. All accepted PhD students are expected to engage with the activities of their department, including contributing to their department’s teaching, for which training and payment will be provided for the teaching activities. Please indicate your desired supervisor and quote the research group if appropriate in your application and all correspondence. Please provide the requested application documents as detailed by the department you are applying to.

The application process will involve a pre‑selection on application documents. If selected, applicants will be invited to an interview.
