The Department of Forensic and Neurodevelopmental Sciences (FANS) is one of Europe’s largest research groups and one of the few teams in the world bringing together leading experts in brain development and pro and antisocial behaviours. We believe it is essential to investigate the determinants of normal development in order to understand abnormal behaviour (or illness). FANS academics play a critical role connecting expertise in basic animal models through to the latest neuroimaging technique, with epidemiology and the social sciences.
The Research Fellow will develop and deliver high-quality research by formulating research objectives, designing projects, and contributing to the preparation of research proposals. The role involves conducting independent and collaborative research, identifying potential funding sources, and supporting the process of securing external research funding. The post holder will apply and develop knowledge gained through research to produce high-quality publications and contribute to the dissemination of research findings through peer-reviewed journals and other appropriate media and will actively present research outcomes at conferences.
Acting as Project Manager for Gen2020, the Research Fellow will coordinate activities across multiple workstreams to support the delivery of high-quality, innovative research. The role will involve contributing to research strategy and planning, fostering a productive, inclusive, and supportive team culture, and supporting the translation of programme outputs in collaboration with preclinical colleagues. The post holder will also communicate complex and conceptual ideas to diverse audiences and actively engage in networking to support knowledge exchange and advance research thinking.
This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 24 months. Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development.
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
- Essential criteria
- PhD in psychology, neuroscience, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline.
- Proven ability to lead and oversee scientific activities across multiple workstreams.
- Experience in developing research objectives, methodologies, and project plans.
- Experience in supervising, mentoring and managing the workload of research assistants and junior staff.
- Demonstrated experience in managing submissions, approvals, and reporting processes for Ethics Committees, regulatory bodies, and R&D offices.
- Experience of contributing effectively to undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching programmes.
- Demonstrate an ability to develop individual and collaborative research projects and attract external research funding.
- Desirable criteria
- Previous outputs in peer-reviewed journals or other recognised forums.
- Experience in developing research objectives, projects and research proposals.
- Demonstrated ability to develop original ideas, innovative approaches, or methodologies that contribute to advancing knowledge within the field.
