This multidisciplinary work on ‘Defining targets for intervention in the aetiopathogenic pathways of Parkinson’s and related diseases’ has a clinical base at the Maudsley Hospital and involves affiliated laboratories across King’s Health Partners. The programme is strongly led by statistical modelling to predict not just Parkinson’s disease (PD) status but also its facets. The aim is defining targets for intervention, and running tight interventional studies.
Primary objective is to build a fully-quantifiable aetiopathogenic model for the disease-spectrum and its evolution (change in severity of individual facets and shift in manifestations) with time and intervention, thereby enabling understanding of an individual’s position within this spectrum in terms of their manifestation profile, exogenous and endogenous drivers and mediators, and prediction of their future trajectory, with and without intervention.
Secondary objective is to use the modelling to identify and define: (i) targets for intervention in aetiopathogenic pathways; and (ii) applicable cohorts, progressing to (iii) interventional studies to investigate and test causal relationships.
Purpose of role is to progress the research programme of ‘JD HMI:CPT’, responsibility is to Dr S M Dobbs. Role includes work with participants, laboratory work, archiving of specimens and data, searching/reviewing the literature, drafting reports, as well as helping and supervising MSc and PhD students, and liaising with collaborators to drive the work forward. Expansion of statistical input should allow a faster output of papers (some major, others complimentary). The Research Fellow will bring the team together, making it function in a more co-ordinated fashion and more efficiently. Increasing the profile of the group by presentations to scientific and lay groups and exploring funding/expansion opportunities is key.
This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 29th Feb 2028.
