About Us

The Analytical, Environmental & Forensic Sciences (AEFS) Department is based in the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences within the School of Cancer & Pharmaceutical Sciences in the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine. AEFS is based at King’s Waterloo Campus and brings together over 70 researchers working on analytical techniques for toxicology, genetics, wildlife and the criminal justice system, including anti-doping, fingerprint and trace analysis, as well as exploring the impact of exposure to chemicals on humans and the wider environment. Overall, the aim of AEFS is to develop and improve forensic science methodologies and to explore and minimise the negative impact of the environment on human health.

About The Role

The Research Assistant will support the work of the Preventable Deaths Tracker, an online research platform that systematically collects and analyses information from medico-legal death investigations. The core purpose of the PDT is to save lives by enabling research, learning and prevention of avoidable and premature deaths through evidence-based vigilance.

The primary role of the Research Assistant is to manage the databases and support a research-driven campaign. It will involve:

  • Creating and maintaining a database of stakeholders
  • Developing policy and research briefings for stakeholders
  • Disseminating calls for action
  • Engaging with stakeholders
  • Organising dissemination activities
  • Data management of the Preventable Deaths Tracker’s in England, Wales, and Scotland, including case entry, cleaning, and leading on the development of our research taxonomy

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 12 months. The role is funded by the charity, Changing Ideas. The post is designed for flexible or at home working with regular in-person meetings, seminars and events.

Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7.
