About the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine & Sciences

The School (Head, Professor Mauro Giacca) provides an outstanding multi-disciplinary environment for the pursuit of cutting-edge cardiovascular and metabolic research. Our current research spans the fundamental molecular, cellular, and physiological processes that underly normal and abnormal cardiovascular and metabolic function and drive the translation of this strong basic science into advances in clinical practice. The School occupies facilities across the Guy's, St Thomas' and Denmark Hill campuses of King's College London and comprises over 70 clinical and non-clinical academic groups, hosting 400 personnel and 110 PhD students. Clinical and pre-clinical researchers at King's have access to state-of-the-art core facilities and expertise, including multimodality imaging, clinical research facilities, experimental medicine hub, high-throughput robotic screening, integrative invasive and non-invasive human physiology, comprehensive physiology and genetic modification. There is an innovative clinical informatics platform integrated with large language models for the analyses of electronic health records across the King's Health Partner NHS Trusts. Assisted by the close collaboration between clinical and academic colleagues and the outstanding infrastructure, all the building blocks are in place for the generation of novel advances with major clinical impact. The School hosts a range of training programmes including three PhD programmes in cardiovascular sciences and advanced therapies, an MSc in Cardiovascular Sciences and an iBSc in Cardiovascular Medicine. Multiple other doctoral training programmes are available across the Faculty.

About The Role

The KCL Coronary Research Group, led by Professor Perera, is a dynamic group of clinicians including PhD fellows, academic clinical lecturers, intermediate fellows and Consultant Cardiologists. The group undertakes research across multiple cardiovascular domains, from coronary physiology, myocardial ischaemia and perfusion, ventricular arrhythmia, ischaemic heart failure, mechanical support and complex coronary interventions. As part of our team's work we also run UK wide multi-centre randomised control trials, including BCIS1, REVIVED-BCIS2, CHIP-BCIS3 and the ongoing BCIS4 in collaboration with the University of Leicester.

The group is seeking to appoint a new Project Manager to coordinate and facilitate the extended follow up of one of these clinical trials. In addition, the post holder will be responsible for contributing to the group's other established research projects, as well as aiding in upcoming funding applications.

The postholder will be expected to be able to contribute in the following areas:

• Applying for ethical approval and amendments
• Coordination NHS digital data downloads from electronic health record data from NHS England, Public Health Scotland and the Northern Ireland Executive Office, obtaining the requisite regulatory approvals
• Involvement in research funding applications, including clinical research training fellowships, project grants and clinical studies
• Supporting the group in organisation of meetings, bringing together key stakeholders, facilitating PPI involvement
• Working with clinical trial units including the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, KCL and University of Leicester, as well as funding bodies such as the British Heart Foundation and NIHR

The postholder will report to and be accountable to Professor Perera as the lead of the group, but will work closely with all team members as well as KCL research staff. The postholder will contribute to the development of our portfolio of clinical and health research programmes. They will also be supported by the School's professional services and wider management teams to ensure effective processes and procedures are implemented and followed. This is a part time post (70% FTE) and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 15th December 2028.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

• Educated to degree level or relevant professional qualification and experience in medicine, cardiovascular sciences or health management.
• Experience of working in scientific, health or research sector
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral with a proven ability to adapt style for a variety of channels, audiences, and stakeholders
• Knowledge of NHS digital data extraction, electronic health care records and/or hospital episode statistics
• A commitment to a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion, actively addressing areas of potential bias.
• Knowledge of current issues in clinical governance, ethical approval, with good understanding of complex and evolving research governance issues impacting the School's research activities.
• Ability to oversee complex research and/or educational projects, ensuring meeting of regulatory submissions and project milestones across projects, and communicating progress through high quality outputs.

Desirable criteria

• Involvement in cardiovascular clinical research in the UK, including data security, ethics, legal framework of patient data
• Experience of leading projects, including evidence of self motivation, drive and team management
• Prior experience of research trials, clinical trial units and/or research funding processes
• Completion of good clinical practice training
