NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Paediatrics (Maternal and Child Health) in London

The Department of Women’s and Children’s Health is one of the six Departments in the School of Life Course and Population Health Sciences in the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine at King’s College London. It co-ordinates academic activity, ensuring close linkage between King’s College London (KCL) and the NHS trusts that make up King’s Health Partners.

The strengths of the Paediatric programme come from a series of unique features:

• A unique and distinctive focus for paediatric research which emphasises making practical advances in common and important diseases.
• The co-location of strong obstetric, fetal, neonatal and children’s research with large clinical services and strong academic programmes on a single site.
• Specific and unique research facilities, including the Evelina Children’s Imaging Centre, the XMR facility and the unique Neuromodulation service.
• Established research links with other Schools within the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine in KCL.
• World-leading child mental health researchers in the Maudsley Hospital and the KCL Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience.
• Strong collaborative links to adult specialities that lead their fields, particularly in gastroenterology, allergy, neurosciences and imaging sciences.

This NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer post is a 4-year appointment designed to provide 50% clinical and 50% research training. The role is situated within the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health at King’s College London and integrated with King’s Health Partners. The post-holder will undertake clinical training within the London School of Paediatrics while pursuing high-level academic research in Maternal and Child Health, aiming to be eligible for CCT by completion.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

• Essential criteria:
• Full GMC registration with a valid license to practice.
• PhD or MD (research) thesis submitted at the time of application or fully awarded before taking up the post.
• Currently in Paediatric Specialty Training post at ST4 to ST7, with satisfactory ARCP outcomes.
• Demonstrable potential for high-quality research in Maternal/Child Health.
• Evidence of scientific publications and presentations.
• Evidence of GCP certification and understanding of research governance and ethics.
• Demonstration of understanding and commitment to an academic career.
• Demonstration of the potential for scientific independence.
• Desirable criteria:
• Specific research interest or experience aligned to the scope of work in KCL’s leading paediatric research group.
• Demonstrated ability or desire to collaborate across disciplines.
• Successful involvement in grant applications as a named researcher or co-investigator.
• Demonstration of the potential for scientific independence and the ability to lead a research team.
• Evidence of team working skills.
