The Department of Political Economy invites applications for a Lecturer in International and Comparative Politics (Academic Education Pathway). The successful candidate will contribute to both international politics and comparative politics, while expanding the geographical range of the Department’s expertise. Candidates should be able to contribute to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The Department of Political Economy is a unique interdisciplinary enterprise located in the heart of London with proximity to both the world of politics and the city. Founded in 2010, the department is the only dedicated Department of Political Economy in the United Kingdom. The teaching and research recognise that the disciplines of Politics and Economics are inextricably linked; it is not possible to properly understand political processes without exploring the economic context in which politics operates.
You will be responsible to the Head of Department. More information about the Department, School and Faculty can be found on the King’s website.
The postholder will contribute to the planning, organisation and delivery of teaching activities within the department in accordance with established departmental practice, and to ongoing curriculum development. They will take module tutor responsibility, supervise dissertations, and participate fully in assessment and examination processes using a variety of methods and techniques, providing effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning. They will identify where modules need to be developed and make proposals for this, and advise on and assist with student recruitment and marketing issues.
They will act as personal tutor to students and be responsible for the pastoral care of students within a specified area. They will also engage in subject, professional and pedagogy research as required to support teaching activities. This is a full-time post, and you will be offered a fixed-term contract for two years until 30/09/2028.
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
- Essential criteria
- PhD and first degree in a relevant subject (PhD submitted by time of application)
- Academic specialism in international and comparative politics
- Ability to expand the geographical breadth of the Department’s expertise in international and comparative politics
- Demonstrable excellence in and experience of university research-led teaching
- Good presentational and communicative skills
- Good organisational and administrative skills
- Ability to supervise student research at BA, MA and PhD levels
- Ability to provide support and guidance in the supervision and tutoring of Undergraduate and Postgraduate students
