Lecturer in Agent & Multi-Agent Systems (Education & Research) in London

The Department of Informatics is looking to appoint a Lecturer in Agents & Multi-Agent Systems. As we continue to grow and strengthen our department, we are seeking to make two lecturer appointments in the areas of Agents & Multi-Agent Systems. We welcome applications from candidates who have an international profile in research in any of the following areas: distributed artificial intelligence, coordination and negotiation, game theory and mechanism design, multi-agent learning and reinforcement learning, agent-based modelling and simulation, autonomous decision-making, communication protocols, and applications in robotics, smart grids, and social networks.

We consider computer science challenges from a broad perspective. Members of the department regularly publish in and sit on the program committees of top-tier and well-known venues in computer science and software engineering. Top-quality research establishes members of the Department as leaders in their fields. It is the research transformative aspect that provides the opportunity to serve society while supporting King's as an outstanding institution in science and technology. The Department has strong links with industry, who engage with us in collaborative research projects.

We offer undergraduate and postgraduate education (in both computer science and artificial intelligence) catering for the needs of our students and the organisations in which they will work. It is essential that applicants have the enthusiasm and commitment needed to ensure the success of these programmes. The successful applicant for this post will be involved in delivering teaching in a core area of computer science.

The successful candidate will be appointed to a research group and will have the opportunity to contribute to cross-cutting hubs. Research collaboration across research groups, with departmental hubs and with other Departments in the Faculty and across the College is strongly encouraged.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered on an indefinite contract.

About the role

• Undertake a self-directed programme of research and scholarship at a level commensurate with current international standard.
• Enhance the research profile of the Department through academic outputs, including publications and scientific meetings, scholarship, academic and industrial collaboration, impact and other externally facing activities.
• Supervise and train postgraduate students and postdoctoral research staff to ensure their effective development.
• Enthusiastically contribute to academic management and support the administration and development of the department to further its education, research activities, and ambitions.
• Deliver an excellent student experience through innovative teaching and assessment methods for both undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes, in core computer science and a specialism in computer science or artificial intelligence.
• Be responsible for the wellbeing and pastoral care of students, including acting as Personal Tutor.
• Engage with and contribute to department, faculty, and institutional level initiatives in accordance with strategy at all levels of the organisation.
• Actively promote and participate in equality, diversity, and collegiality.

About you

• PhD in computer science or related field.
• Ability to define and lead a research area and a growing research record in core computer science area as evidenced by publications in high quality journals and conferences; research experience and good reputation in relevant research field; potential to acquire research project funding; ability to supervise research students.
• Ability to teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in core areas of computer science.
• Ability to make a significant contribution to administrative work.
• Teaching and examining experience.
• Experience in attracting external research funds.
• Ability to build relationships and networks with colleagues and external stakeholders across the College and externally.
