About the role:
The Deputy Security Manager will support the Security Manager managing the day to day security delivery across their campus and will provide strong management of the security team ensuring that the team are delivering a trusted responsive service to all users of the campus.
Utilising their strong communication and interpersonal skills, they will be expected to ensure the highest standards of conduct and customer service skills are displayed by all security staff and will resolve issues as they emerge or escalate as required. As an experienced security professional, they will drive efficiencies by intelligent use of resources and support the wider Cleaning and Security Services (CSS) team with future transformation change.
In the absence of the Security Manager, the postholder will be the key point of contact in the event of any emergency on campus or adjacent to our estate and will lead the security response supported by the wider security management team.
This is a full time position (35 hours per week) offered on an indefinite contract.

About you:
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Have a good knowledge of the security industry in a large multi-site operation, and a proven ability to use own initiative and work without supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both spoken and written, and a high level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office packages.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar managerial role, with a customer focused approach to protective security, events, and incident management, expecting from time to time to work outside normal hours.
- Experience in dealing with HR matters including sickness absence, discipline matters, performance issues, PDRs, and misconduct investigations.
- A pro-active and flexible approach to work with the ability to adapt to changing situations and to work calmly and efficiently under pressure.
Desirable criteria
- SIA license holder.
- IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH qualification.
- Knowledge of current security and access control systems legislation, including the Data Protection Act, CCTV systems.
- Experience in delivering training to staff on a range of security matters, policies, assignment instructions and operational response plans.
- An understanding of the current challenges in the HE sector or similar setting.
