About Us

The School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences at King\’s College London is looking for a Communications Manager to support its mission to engineer better health for patients in the UK and worldwide.

The School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences is proud to have developed unique partnerships between academia, NHS and industry through the creation of the MedTech Hub, enabling us to be better placed to identify key needs in our healthcare systems and swiftly address them, ensuring that our innovations go from bench-to-bedside in a reduced timeframe. Through our specialist infrastructure and research facilities, embedded in one of the UK\’s most research active NHS Foundation trusts, we are in a powerful and unique position to deliver on our mission of engineering better health.

About the role

An experienced and dedicated Communications Manager is required to lead the School\’s communications team on the St Thomas\’ hospital campus and provide high quality communication support. This will include raising the profile of the work of the School to key internal and external audiences and providing communications expertise to support the School\’s vision to create Europe\’s leading MedTech Hub located at St Thomas\’ Hospital.

This is a full time contract (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Degree, HND, NVQ 4 qualified or equivalent in relevant subject/relevant formal training, plus relevant experience in similar or related roles OR Considerable knowledge and skills gained through work experience in relevant communications posts with a clear progression in increasingly demanding job.
  2. Clear spoken and excellent written communication skills, with strong interpersonal and influencing/behavioural skills with the ability to build contacts and relationships across the School and wider network.
  3. Strong networking skills, with an ability to develop new relationships at all levels with internal and external colleagues, using a collaborative approach to work, supporting others, demonstrating tact and diplomacy.
  4. Excellent time management and organisational skills, able to manage own workload and prioritise tasks in a busy work environment, managing multiple work-streams independently.
  5. Ability to balance competing, shifting priorities on behalf of a team under pressure of deadlines and workload.
  6. Thorough knowledge of a broad range of communications activities and tools (Microsoft software, media, websites and content management systems, events, marketing, brand management, social media, publications, databases) and a proven track record of devising and implementing successful communication strategies.
  7. Experience of designing and developing webpages, writing and publishing content to online digital platforms including podcasts and videos – providing training and support where necessary.

Desirable criteria

  1. Experience of working in the higher education sector and/or a medical/clinical environment with a detailed knowledge of the regulatory, policy and procedural context along with the challenges and opportunities faced by the sector.
  2. Evidence of an active commitment to career development with the application of learning to the work context.
  3. A professional qualification in communications, public relations or marketing.
  4. Experience of working in scientific or health sector.
