Research Translation and Innovation Manager in City of Westminster

The Research Translation and Innovation Manager plays a key role in the operational delivery and continuous development of LIHE's MedTech translation and acceleration programmes. The role oversees the delivery of LIHE's flagship MedTech Venture Builder programme, translating programme strategy into effective operational plans and coordinating activity across the wider team. It also provides direct leadership for key programme activities, supports academics, clinicians and ventures in navigating translational funding opportunities, and contributes to programme reporting, stakeholder engagement and wider ecosystem activity. The role reports to the Head of Clinical Translation and Governance and works closely with the Venture Manager and the wider LIHE team. The postholder will provide day-to-day coordination and operational oversight across programme activities, support effective prioritisation and delivery within the team, and represent LIHE's MedTech translation and acceleration activities internally and externally. This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 12 months.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

• PhD or equivalent relevant experience in supporting research translation, innovation and/or commercialisation.
• Demonstrable experience of delivering multiple complex projects, programmes, courses or comparable initiatives within a research, healthcare, innovation or life sciences environment, with the ability to translate strategic objectives into practical plans, processes and deliverables.
• Understanding of research translation within MedTech (preferred), Biotech, Pharma or the wider life sciences/healthcare innovation sector.
• Demonstrable experience of managing complex activities involving multiple stakeholders and competing priorities, with the ability to organise and prioritise a demanding workload and deliver effectively to deadlines.
• Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and liaise confidently with staff and stakeholders at a range of levels, both internally and externally.
• Demonstrable experience of securing grant funding and knowledge of the UK research and innovation funding environment, including the ability to provide appropriate guidance and signposting on funding opportunities.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision, take ownership of actions, exercise sound judgement and make informed decisions, recognising when matters should be discussed with colleagues or escalated appropriately.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality in accordance with institutional policies and data protection requirements.

Desirable criteria

• Professional project or programme management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, AgilePM or equivalent).
• Understanding of commercialisation and/or venture building, particularly within MedTech or the wider life sciences sector.
• Experience of identifying and sourcing appropriate funding streams for research, innovation or early-stage ventures.
• Experience of working within a research translation, innovation, accelerator or venture-building environment.
