The Postgraduate Research (PGR) Manager is a member of the DPSoL Doctoral Studies team, providing expert advice and support to PGR students and staff across the school. They will line manage a G5 Senior Research Operations Officer, who will provide routine (2-3 days/week as needed) additional support for the PGR programme. The role holder will work closely with the Associate Dean for Doctoral Studies, Deputy AD Doctoral Studies, Senior Research Operations Officer, Senior Research Operations Manager, PGR student representatives and DPSoL Postgraduate Research Sub-committee members to ensure that the doctoral programme runs to high standards, both in terms of academic quality and student experience. This role is embedded within a growing Professional Services joint Research team across King's Business School and DPSoL and there will be opportunities for cross-team working and projects on PGR matters but also in the sphere of general research culture for early career researchers (PGRs but also other research staff as well as colleagues with wider responsibility for research.) The PGR Manager will ensure that an end-to-end service is delivered to DPSoL PGR students and staff, ensuring compliance with PGR regulations and the effective monitoring and support of key study milestones. They will play a centre role in delivering and implementing the PGR strategy, as well as developing policies and processes to enhance student experience. The role holder will oversee PGR administration across the school, including the development and continuous improvement of faculty templates, processes and guidelines. They will also oversee the organisation of student events, the DPSoL doctoral training programme and DPSoL faculty doctoral studentships, including associated financial forecasting. In addition, the PGR Manager will monitor PGR budgets and analyse and monitor PGR admissions and student recruitment to support planning and strategic decision-making. DPSoL operates a hybrid working policy and you will be expected to spend a minimum of two working days per week on campus. Please see Job Description attachment for full list of key responsibilities. To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • First degree or other appropriate qualifications.
  • Substantial prior work experience in higher education administration supporting students.
  • Extensive experience of using student systems and student record databases and following/understanding student procedures and regulations.
  • Experience of and the ability to provide concise and clear guidance to different audiences using existing policies and procedures.
  • Ability to make decisions, prioritise and plan workload across different areas, meet deadlines and use initiative to identify and suggest changes/improvements.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications skills and proven ability to build working relationships with others across an organisation.
  • Ability to handle matters requiring sensitivity and a high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent IT skills (including MS Outlook, Excel, SharePoint, Word)

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of line management
  • Prior experience supporting postgraduate/doctoral research
  • Experience of analysing data and producing reports
  • Experience of managing budgets
