The Faculty incorporates seven departments as well as several vibrant institutes and centres with broad ranging programmes of activity across research, education, impact and engagement, thought leadership, and knowledge transfer.
The Business Operations Manager plays a key role in supporting business operations within King’s Business School, providing leadership and oversight across core operational functions including HR, Finance and Procurement, Education, Space Management, Health and Safety, Compliance, academic workload allocation, and people and culture initiatives. The post holder will own and manage processes and systems across these areas, developing strong operational expertise and an understanding of local needs. Working independently and collaboratively within the Faculty Business Operations team, they will use sound judgement to solve problems, identify risks, and set short- and long-term priorities to ensure effective service delivery.
Working closely with the Senior Business Operations Manager, Head of Staff Experience, Professional Services colleagues, academic leaders and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, the role will contribute to the delivery of efficient, compliant and high-quality operations. The post holder will make timely, informed decisions that have a tangible impact across the Faculty.
The role includes line management responsibility for a team of Senior Business Operations Officers and oversight of local financial management, staffing operations and budgets. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, proactive manager with strong problem-solving skills who is committed to continuous improvement, team development and enhancing the staff and student experience, with clear opportunities for career progression and professional development within the University. This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
- Significant knowledge and skills of complex business operations and systems acquired through relevant work experience, demonstrating development through progressively more demanding work/roles, and the acquisition of appropriate professional or specialist knowledge.
- Strong financial management skills, including budget monitoring, forecasting, and compliance with financial procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams, including performance management, staff development, and fostering a collaborative culture.
- Excellent knowledge of HR processes and policies, including recruitment, onboarding, and compliance requirements.
- Experience in process improvement and implementing operational efficiencies, with a track record of delivering measurable outcomes.
- Strong analytical and data management skills, with the ability to gather, interpret, and present qualitative and quantitative data to inform decision-making.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and build effective relationships across academic and professional services teams.
- Knowledge of health and safety, space management, and compliance requirements, including GDPR and information governance.
- Experience of working in a higher education, research, academic, or other non-profit environment.
- Project Management or similar equivalent qualification or training.
