Main duties of the job
The role involves delivering paediatric dentistry services and supporting the care group.
- Assess and treatment plan patients referred by general dental practitioners, community dental services, and internal tertiary referrals.
- Provide high-quality care service to patients.
- Contribute to audit programmes, morbidity and mortality, clinical governance, and learning from death.
- Serve as clinical supervisor of junior medical/dental practitioners.
- Participate in teaching, examination, accreditation duties and CPD initiatives.
- Submit and manage outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as per care group arrangements.
- Provide 24‑hour, 7‑day cover for the unit on a rota basis, covering annual leave and short‑term sickness.
- Assist with the formulation, implementation, and monitoring of the care group’s business plan.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control policies and evidence‑based practice.
- Exhibit professional leadership for staff, fostering continuous professional development.
Person specification
- Wide experience in all aspects of paediatric dentistry or equivalent.
- Experience organising paediatric dentistry services in a busy teaching hospital.
- Leadership capability within multidisciplinary teams.
- Understanding of medical audit and quality improvement principles.
- Ability to lead change.
- Experience in conducting or supporting clinical research.
- Effective communication skills, teamwork, and collaboration with all staff.
- Proficiency with information technology and general computer skills.
- Flexibility and resilience.
- Professional attitude: reliability, punctuality, tidy appearance.
- Understanding and commitment to King's values.
- Higher degree or diploma (MD, PhD, etc.) preferred.
- Familiarity with the current structure of the NHS and recent initiatives.
- Management course or qualification desirable.
- Relevant research experience in paediatric dentistry.
- Publication of relevant review articles or case reports.
- Teaching skills course or qualification.
Employer certification / accreditation
You must have appropriate UK professional registration. The position is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) and the Disclosure and Barring Service requirement.
