We are seeking experienced Ophthalmology Nurses currently working at the equivalent of a Band 5 who are motivated to develop their intravitreal injection skillset or who already possess this competency. This role includes two weekly intravitreal injection sessions at a Band 6 level, with flexibility to cover additional ad-hoc sessions during planned or unplanned staffing gaps. The post involves cross-site working across our South Sites Ophthalmology Services at Orpington Hospital and Queen Mary’s Hospital. As our service expands, we offer opportunities for professional development for Ophthalmic Nurses. You will need strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring patients move safely and efficiently through their appointments.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert, holistic, and high-quality care to patients and their families within King's College Hospital.
- Take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area in the absence of, or as delegated by, the Ward Sister, Charge Nurse, or Head of Department.
- Assist in the leadership, supervision, and development of a designated group of nurses within the department.
- Act as a clinical resource within the ward and across the Care Group as required.
- Undertake two intravitreal injection sessions per week, plus an additional session every other week to support unplanned/planned activity or injector leave.
- Serve as a positive role model for junior staff, promoting a culture of high-quality, courteous, patient-focused care.
- Ensure patient confidentiality is always upheld and that professional standards are consistently maintained.

Qualifications and requirements
- Current Ophthalmology Nurse at the equivalent of Band 5, with motivation to develop intravitreal injection skills or existing competency in intravitreal injections.
- Ability to cover two intravitreal injection sessions per week at Band 6 level, with flexibility for additional sessions as needed.
- Willingness to work across South Sites Ophthalmology Services at Orpington Hospital and Queen Mary’s Hospital.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to safe, high-quality, patient-centered care and to maintaining patient confidentiality and professional standards.
