Role: An experienced neurosurgical trainee will develop advanced expertise in functional neurosurgery, with the goal of progressing to consultant status in this specialty.
Main duties of the job:
- Assess and investigate patients undergoing functional neurosurgery, including those with movement disorders, intractable pain, and epilepsy, in both adult and paediatric cases.
- Conduct research into functional neurosurgery and publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Participate in a multidisciplinary team comprising functional neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, neurologists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and specialist nurses.
- Assist with, and progressively perform, the majority of functional neurosurgical procedures, depending on experience level.
- Attend one to two national or international meetings each year and present abstracts.

The Fellow’s duties include: assistance with patient care on the wards, support in the operating theatre, attendance at relevant clinics, review of literature and clinical data, and participation in the SpR duty rota.

- Clinical competence training (CCT) or near completion of CCT.
- Experience in trauma neurosurgery.

- Knowledge and experience in elective and emergency neurosurgery.
