POST CCT FELLOWSHIP IN FUNCTIONAL NEUROLOGICAL DISORDER

This is a Post CCT Fellowship in Functional Neurological Disorder for neurologists. The remit of the postholder will be to work within the multi-disciplinary team providing specialist care for patients with FND, while also supporting the implementation and evaluation of a new care pathway and contributing to education across the regional network.

• To provide clinical experience in the assessment and management of Functional Neurological Disorder.
• To gain experience in service evaluation, quality improvement and action research within a newly commissioned FND pathway.
• To gain experience in education and training of clinicians across the South East London FND network.
• To develop the capability to practice independently in this field, and to contribute to the future growth of FND services nationally.
• Provide a clinical service for patients with FND, including new assessments, follow-up, and ward referrals.
• Participate in MDT meetings and contribute to collaborative formulation and management planning.
• Provide education, support and supervision for clinicians across the FNDExSEL network.
• Contribute to service evaluation and pathway development through data collection, analysis and action research.
• Undertake optional specialist clinic sessions in another area of neuropsychiatry (e.g. epilepsy, movement disorders, brain injury, autoimmune encephalitis, or cognitive disorders).
• Engage in postgraduate teaching and support the wider academic programme.
• Contribute to audit, clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives.
• Undertake personal study, with the option to attend elements of the MSc in Clinical Neuropsychiatry at KCL.
• Work in line with Trust policies and governance frameworks, maintaining patient safety and confidentiality.

The core clinical activity throughout the year will be two FND assessment clinics per week (working with Prof Edwards and Dr Stanton), one telephone follow-up clinic, one session for ward referrals and attendance at MDTs. The post-holder will also contribute to data collection & analysis for evaluation of the FND pathway, and to education and support for other clinicians in the network. We will protect one session per week for optional clinical activities and one session per week for private study.

• MRCP
• Completed or near to completion of Neurology training (within 15 months of the expected date of CCT (or equivalent) on the day of interview)
• Full registration with GMC
• Experience of day to day organization of neurology or psychiatry services in a busy teaching hospital
• Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams
• Within six months of the expected date of CCT (or equivalent) on the day of interview
• Specific FND/neuropsychiatry experience during neurology training
