Staff Nurse in Orpington

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our dynamic nurse-led team to deliver Systematic Anticancer Therapy (SACT) for patients with oncological, haematological and non-malignant disease. You should have experience in haematology and/or oncology, in delivering SACT, and be able to develop your skills as a team leader.

King's College NHS Foundation Trust has two Chemotherapy Day Unit (CDU) sites – Denmark Hill and Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) Chartwell CDU – which work closely together. The post holder will play a key role in developing nursing expertise in delivering SACT to improve the experience of the local population for both malignant and non-malignant conditions. The Trust is a centre of excellence for haematological malignancy and a liver centre, and hosts ongoing clinical trials at local, national and international levels.

We collaborate across the South East as part of the South East London Cancer Alliance (SELCA), and are part of King's Health Partners with close links to Guy's Cancer Academy and King's College London.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert staff who will deliver SACT within the Trust.
• Deliver an innovative nurse-led SACT service, working closely with a nurse practitioner to run clinics for patients receiving home delivery or self-administration of SACT.
• Support patients and their families by providing clinical, emotional, psychological and social assessment.
• Deliver and assist in the development of evidence-based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines.
• Advocate for patients undergoing cancer treatment.
• Provide expert, holistic care of a high standard to both patients receiving chemotherapy and their relatives within the Trust.
• Confidently manage caseload and be responsible for safe chemotherapy delivery in accordance with national and Trust guidance on the delivery of SACT, including cytotoxic therapy for non-cancer indications across the Trust.
• Take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area in the absence of or as delegated by the Unit Manager, Nurse in Charge or Head of Department.
• Assist in the leadership and development of an identified group of nurses within the unit complement.
• Act as a clinical resource within the unit and across the Care Group as necessary.
• Act as a positive role model to junior staff members, ensuring that all staff recognise their responsibility to deliver services in a high quality, courteous, patient-focused manner and to maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience in haematology and/or oncology and a proven track record delivering SACT.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and to develop leadership skillsets.
• Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to national and Trust guidelines for chemotherapy delivery.
