Role Overview
As a Neurosurgery Apprentice you will support the Neurosurgery team in delivering high‑quality patient care and services, providing hands‑on experience of the essential administrative tasks within the Neurosurgery Department.
Main Duties
- Outpatients, Admissions, and MDT Support
- Coordinate patient admissions, ensuring documentation is accurate and up to date, while addressing patient and family queries.
- Work with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to plan admissions and provide patients with necessary information.
- Manage waiting lists, admission data, and patient bookings, ensuring smooth clinic operations.
- Support MDT meetings by preparing materials, maintaining records, and following up on treatment plans and appointments.
- Assist with general outpatient clinic bookings, ensuring accurate scheduling and communication with patients and staff.
- Support coordinators in managing patients, waiting lists and admissions for specified consultants and practitioners.
- Use EPIC to book admissions for surgery, outpatient appointments and arrange multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Communication and Teamwork
- Manage mailbox. Respond to emails in a professional and timely manner.
- Show respect to patients on phone.
- Work closely with the multidisciplinary team, consultants, nurses and administrative staff to support delivery of high‑quality patient care.
- Ensure clear and professional communication with patients, colleagues and external partners, maintaining a respectful and positive approach.
- General Administrative Support
- Carry out general administrative tasks, such as filing, data entry and maintaining patient records, ensuring all documentation is accurate and confidential.
Training and Development
This apprenticeship offers structured learning and development opportunities. You will receive:
- Training with EPIC (delivered by the Trust’s EPIC Team).
- Training with Sectra, IEP and eRS (on‑the‑job).
- Excel training (build on existing skills with on‑the‑job training).
- Systems training related to patient admissions.
Person Specification
- Maths and English grades A‑C or equivalent.
- Excellent word‑processing and spreadsheet skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
