Responsibilities
- Complete a 12‑month placement within Trauma and run on calls within Acute General Surgery
- Take patient histories and carry out routine patient examinations
- Communicate with patients and provide day‑to‑day medical care under supervision
- Clerk patients admitted on emergency take days
- Participate in in‑patient and day‑surgery operating lists
- Request investigations and treatments for patients
- Attend and undertake ward rounds as required
- Provide cover for colleagues during emergencies and when on annual or study leave
- Participate in the training of medical students attached to the firm
- Provide discharge summaries and promote liaison with general practitioners
- Liaise with patients’ relatives
Qualifications and Training
- Medical graduate with GMC full registration
- Previous NHS exposure (e.g., clinical attachments) is advantageous but not essential
- Appointee will not be part of the South Thames Foundation School; will receive a named educational supervisor
- Participation in hospital educational and training programmes is expected
