Key Responsibilities
- Generate and produce monthly budget statements and financial reports in accordance with Trust timetable and policies.
- Investigate variances from plan, interrogate financial systems, and summarise findings in performance narratives.
- Provide timely resource management information to Budget Holders and advise on financial management matters.
- Support Finance Business Partners and Senior Support Analysts in budgeting, forecasting and business planning.
- Maintain accurate and timely core financial reports to meet internal and external deadlines.
- Communicate financial information effectively to non‑finance stakeholders.
- Implement audit recommendations and uphold internal controls.
Main Duties and Activities
- Produce annual income and expenditure base budget schedules for each department.
- Prepare comprehensive monthly reports covering Income, Expenditure, Variance Analysis, Forecasts and integrated non‑financial data.
- Accurately process recharges, accruals and amendment journals.
- Maintain and update standard operating procedures for month‑end duties.
- Provide training and advice to budget holders on variance and ad‑hoc analyses.
- Attend directorate meetings and present financial performance.
- Assist line managers with calculations supporting cost improvement programmes.
- Champion continuous improvement in financial practices across the Trust.
- Manage team performance, development and compliance with statutory training.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
- Part‑qualified CCAB or CIMA with experience.
- Full accreditation within 12 months of appointment.
Knowledge and Experience
- Experience in an NHS accounting department, preferably in a management accounting role.
- Proficient with general ledger and financial reporting software.
- Experience preparing business cases and cost improvement initiatives.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong accounting skills with ability to identify and evaluate key risks.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and capacity to communicate with all levels of staff.
- Solid understanding of financial governance and NHS financial legislation.
- Capability to manage highly complex, confidential matters.
