Applications are invited for a full time Senior Clinical Fellow post in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will have established leadership and team‑working qualities and will be expected to play an active role in the provision and delivery of healthcare for patients with non‑oncology conditions such as facial trauma, orthognathic surgery, salivary gland surgery, TMJ replacement surgery and reconstructive surgery for facial skin defects.
The department plays an active role in the Major Trauma Centre at King’s and therefore a main emphasis of the post will be the provision of Oral & Maxillofacial Trauma services both within and out of normal working hours.
Main duties of the job- Provide a clinical service in conjunction with colleagues and under the direction of OMFS Consultants, including prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.
- Examine and treat new patients in the out‑patient clinic and assist in review clinics, organising investigations and making treatment plans / decisions independently where appropriate, guided by responsible Consultants.
- Manage surgical treatments within the OMFS out‑patient clinic and the day‑surgery unit, with some degree of clinical freedom subject to progress and outcome review.
- Provide advice to clinicians in hospital and primary care, responding to telephone calls from external practitioners, other departments or ward referrals.
- Be available to the Emergency Department to assess, diagnose and treat urgent cases as part of on‑call commitments.
- Undertake administrative duties associated with patient care and certain departmental administration tasks.
- Participate in risk management, clinical audit and other governance activities within the OMFS department and the Trust, ensuring adherence to Caldicott Principles.
- Participate in the Trust Appraisal Scheme with Supervising Consultant or Clinical Lead to identify training and development needs; pursue personal and professional development to meet Royal College or Competent Authority requirements in CME/ CPD.

- MBBS/BDS (or equivalent)

- Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge and experience of maxillofacial emergencies including simple fracture treatment, airway management and dento‑facial abscesses.
- Competent to work without direct supervision where appropriate.
- Evidence of participation and active involvement in research or audit projects.
- Teaching the teachers course and certificate.
- Experience
- Extensive experience in OMFS.
- ALS (or equivalent) within 2 years.
- ATLS certification.
