Employer: King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, London. The Department of Radiology, including Nuclear Medicine, provides a full range of imaging and treatment services. This role is best suited to an experienced Radiographer or Technologist with experience managing research within a Radiology Department.

The Research Manager is responsible for coordinating and managing research activity (commercial and non‐commercial trials) involving Radiology and/or Nuclear Medicine.

Main duties of the job:

  • The post holder will be the primary point of contact for all imaging research and trial related queries within Radiology.
  • Identifying resourcing and capacity requirements of trials and consulting with radiology staff.
  • Managing costs, ensuring recovery of associated revenue and funding.
  • Co‐ordinating governance requirements for research involving ionising radiation and radiopharmaceuticals in collaboration with the Radiation Protection Department.
  • Preparing and managing regulatory paperwork (IR(ME)R, ARSAC, IRAS, etc.) and ensuring timely sign‐off.
  • Consulting with Radiology senior staff regarding capacity limits and scheduling trials.
  • Attending trial feasibility meetings, R&D committee meetings, site selection and initiation visits.
  • Providing costings for clinical trial procedures and finalising capacity and costing approval with Clinical Research Leads.
  • Responding to imaging queries from sponsors, CROs and trial coordinators.
  • Developing robust methods of recording and reporting clinical trial radiology activity (e.g., RESIST/Lugano reporting).
  • Training and supporting new members of radiology in clinical trial imaging.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

  • To act as the primary contact between principal investigators, trial coordinators and radiology staff; to facilitate trial set‐up, capacity assessment, regulatory compliance, cost management, and reporting.
  • Assist sponsors with pre‐trial paperwork and protocols.
  • Distribute and review trial protocols, IRAS forms and study documents.
  • Identify discrepancies and suggest amendments.
  • Coordinate regulatory approvals and monitor timelines.
  • Consult on imaging capacity with senior radiographers and managers.
  • Collaborate with Radiation Protection on trial set‐up.
  • Attend internal and external meetings relevant to trial imaging.
  • Provide guidance on imaging procedure requests in computer systems.
  • Ensure compliance with reporting requirements and implement quality assurance.
  • Provide training on clinical trial imaging to new staff.

Person specification – Qualifications:

  • BSc (Hons) Radiography, DCR(D) or equivalent Qualified Technologist.
  • HCPC registration or registration with the Register of Clinical Technologists.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training.
  • Post‐graduate study e.g. PGDip Nuclear Medicine.
