Grade NHS Medical & Dental: Junior Clinical Fellow. Contract: Fixed term 6 months (possible extension). Hours: Full time 40 hours per week with on‑call commitment. Salary: £52,656 per annum plus London allowance.
Main duties of the job:
- The post holder will provide 24‑hour cover over Neuro HDU (Kinnier Wilson) and Neurosurgery (Murray Falconer).
- Clinical support is continuous with neurointensive care consultants during the week and neuroanaesthetists on weekends.
- Two formal ward rounds are performed daily.
- The appointee will assist in the Anaesthetic Pre‑assessment Clinic of the neurosurgical department, which runs daily.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities:
- Day‑to‑day care of patients admitted to the neurosurgical department: admission, clinical examination, coordination of investigations, liaison with senior colleagues, and pre‑assessment of elective neurosurgical patients.
- JCFs will be rostered to attend neurosurgical operating theatres and teaching clinics regularly.
- A robust programme of educational supervision and teaching is available, aimed at ST1‑3 level trainees.
- The department has a strong record of career advancement for previous JCF holders.
Person specification:
Education / Qualifications:- GMC registration
- Degree from a recognised medical school
- PhD, MD (original research)
- MRCP I, MRCS I, or FRCA (Primary)
- ALS (or equivalent) within 2 years
- Research experience, presentations, publications
- Previous experience at SHO/JCF level
- Knowledge of the current clinical governance framework and a commitment to continuous professional development
- Ability to work independently where appropriate
- Ability to prioritise clinical need
