Locum Consultant Urological Surgeon, Interest in Functional Urology

Employer: King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Site: King's College Hospital, Town: Orpington. Salary £113,565 - £150,569 per annum excluding London Zone Allowance.
Location: King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, South East London and Kent.
Services are delivered across five hospitals including King's College Hospital, Princess Royal University Hospital, Orpington Hospital, Queen Mary's Hospital Sidcup, and Beckenham Beacon.
Main duties of the job
- Work with the other consultant urologists to provide high quality care to patients, including all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the Care Group.
- Share responsibility for 24/7 cover on a rota basis, including covering colleagues' annual leave and short term sickness as detailed in the contract.
- Provide clinical supervision of junior medical/dental practitioners as part of the shared responsibility with other consultants.
- Carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required, contributing to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.
- Maintain outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group's management team.
- Contribute to the Care Group's research interests in accordance with the Trust's R&D framework.
- Participate in audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, Clinical Governance programmes and Learning from Deaths.
- Take an active role in formulating, implementing and monitoring the Care Group's Business Plan, including discussions with internal and external agencies.
- Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for the service(s).
- Exercise professional leadership for all staff in the specialty, fostering and developing projects to maintain post qualification professional education and training.
- Work with clinical and other professional colleagues to ensure productivity and job satisfaction of staff, including involvement in the appraisal process for peers and junior colleagues.
- Undertake Care Group management duties as agreed with the Care Group/Departmental Manager/Clinical Director.
- Be aware of and comply with all Trust infection prevention and control policies, including hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene.
- Prepare for and undertake the protective interventions you are responsible for, consistent with evidence based practice and patient safety.
- Support the Trust's commitment to consultant led 7 day services and contribute equally with other consultants in the event of future developments.

- Full registration with GMC.
- Name on GMC Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment.
Qualifications
- Full FRCS (Urol).
- Other higher degree or diploma (e. g., MD).
- Training and Experience
- Wide experience in all aspects of urology culminating in award of Certificate of Completion of Training by GMC, or award of Certificate of Eligibility for Specialty Registration (CESR) by GMC.
- Specialist clinical experience in functional urology.
- Management and Leadership
- Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi disciplinary teams.
- Management course and/or qualification.
- Audit and Quality Improvement
- Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit and quality improvement.
- Must have undertaken and completed audit projects.
- Administration
- Experience in day to day organisation of urology services in a busy teaching hospital.
- Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills.
- Familiar with current structure of the UK National Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes.
- Research and Publications
- Experience of clinical research.
- Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of urology.
- Publication of relevant review articles or case reports.
- Teaching
- Experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and exam preparation.
- Teaching skills course/qualification.
