Role Summary
You will have a key role in setting standards and improving IV care for in‑patients and out‑patients across the Trust. You will support the Vascular Access CNS Team in delivering safe and effective vascular access services.
Responsibilities
- Undertake bedside teaching, training and supervise ongoing care and education of midlines and PICC lines.
- Participate in the development of research‑based practices, assess, plan and implement, evaluate and improve standards of care.
- Advise clinical areas on care and standardisation of intravascular equipment, handling safety and financial concerns, and communicate deficiencies to appropriate personnel.
- Work clinically in wards and departments responding to urgent needs, and learning from serious incidents.
- In conjunction with specialist staff, monitor and evaluate standards of care of patients.
- Manage own caseload under supervision.
- Attend all relevant MDT meetings and actively contribute.
- Assist in delivering a seamless service through multidisciplinary team processes and communication.
- Maintain accurate records of staff training.
- Assist the Lead Vascular Access Team in determining and providing appropriate intravascular training in line with national guidance.
- Support the development of links with managers and Practice Development Nurses to minimise service disruption.
- Keep accurate records using a standard format for staff trained in vascular device care and report to managers.
- Perform other administrative tasks related to vascular access training as needed.
- Teach in the clinical area as required.
- Advise on educational opportunities and support team members in developing their personal development plans.
- Support nursing staff in developing clinical competency for specified skills.
- Create, sustain and support an environment where practice development and change can flourish.
- Determine educational needs in partnership with the Vascular Access CNS and analyse high‑impact interventions.
- Participate in an audit programme of line care linked with line practitioner teams at other King's Health Partners’ hospitals to feed into clinical governance.
- Partake in clinical research around line care linked with line practitioner teams at other King's Health Partners’ hospitals.
- Inform managers of changes affecting safe and competent practice.
- Review the service to assess its value for improving patient outcomes and potential development.
- Provide support of nursing and non‑nursing managerial staff as required.
- Ensure resources are utilised effectively and efficiently.
- Exercise a cost‑effective approach to patient care.
- Utilise and maintain information systems to aid audit and provide regular analytical reports.
- Maintain contemporaneous and accurate treatment records, submitting relevant statistics, reports and activity data as requested.
