A demanding and exciting opportunity for getting involved in the busy and pressured environment of an ICT network support team at a technically advanced & managerial level. You will be assisting the ICT network manager responsible for centrally managing the networked infrastructure across a number of sites based in Southeast London. The network infrastructure team are responsible for delivering a highly reliable & resilient network, supporting & maintaining a vast number of users and devices across a variety of network platforms which are an essential component for the day to day running of critical clinical services. The infrastructure platforms you would help manage and support consist of Cisco switches, routers and WLAN devices providing direct connectivity for over 40,000 endpoints and 12,000+ users 24 hours a day. In addition, you will help manage and provide technical support for Palo Alto firewalls and BIG-IP (F5) systems for perimeter, site-to-site & remote access security solutions.
Main duties of the job:
- Manage KCH Wireless LAN infrastructure
- Manage network assurance systems
- Manage network related projects across all current and new King’s sites
- Manage recruitment and appraisals for ICT Technical network analysts
- To be an escalation point for network related issues to King’s users
- Create and manage standard operating procedures for LAN/WAN tasks
- Assist with management of the ICT network node rooms
- Provide specialist advice to staff/users on network systems and policies
- Manage resolution of complex technical issues that affect function of the data infrastructure
- Maintain and develop the current network infrastructure to a very high standard
- Responsible for the technical monitoring of the Trust’s Data Network
- Liaise with Third Party suppliers on highly complex technical matters
- Monitoring and troubleshooting the Trust’s firewalls
The applicant for this role will be responsible for assisting with the management of the ICT Network team focusing on the LAN/WAN and cabling infrastructure elements. You will help manage workloads, annual leave and ensure there is sufficient support to deliver fast and reliable network support to all King’s sites. You would also help with appraising, setting tasks, identifying training needs and mentoring the network team analysts.
Applicant should have an excellent proven track record of PC, network hardware & software support within a Microsoft and Cisco networking environment and experience in managing a small team of ICT technical personnel. In addition, a very good working knowledge & skills in the following is essential:
- Leading a technical team
- Cisco infrastructure hardware & software
- Excellent communication and team working skills
- Hold current CCNP or higher Cisco certification
- Palo Alto firewall management
- WAN management and implementation experience
The following is also desirable:
- Windows Active Directory experience
- Experience & knowledge of working in an NHS environment
- VMWare experience
- Network Access Control experience
There will also be a significant involvement in managing the installation of data network cabling across all King’s sites liaising directly with 3rd party cabling suppliers and ensuring the work is completed within SLA and to a high standard. The successful candidate will be required to travel to the variety of King’s sites in this cross-site role. They will also help manage and take part in the ICT network on-call team to cover service affecting network related issues outside the standard 8-6 working hours and 24/7 at weekends. If successful, you will have access to the latest technologies, projects and infrastructure and be part of an enthusiastic ICT Infrastructure team.

Education & Qualifications:
- BSC in IT Discipline or extensive experience
- High level IT Network Professional Accreditation, ie Cisco CCNP
Knowledge & Experience:
- Expert knowledge on Microsoft Windows Server OSs
- Experience working in a complex computer network environment, preferably within the NHS
- Firewall management
- Experience in leading staff and organising on-call rotas
- Experience working in a team of professionally qualified people
- Significant Experience of working on complex ICT projects
- Management of third party providers and their staff when on site
- Experience presenting to large or small groups of staff at any level
- Able to make competent judgements on very complex ICT problems
- Ability to provide and present highly complex information to an audience of differing levels of understanding and seniority
- Ability to analyse and form an opinion on solutions ranging from simple to highly complex when presented by multiple suppliers
