An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join and help manage our ICT End User Support Team in this high profile team leadership and customer service oriented technical role, as an ICT Advanced Senior Technical Analyst / Team Leader. The ICT Advanced Senior Technical Analyst / Team Leader will report directly to the ICT End User Experience Support Manager. They will be responsible for staff management across multiple sites and undertake a wide array of tasks, both proactively and reactively as detailed in the Job description. To achieve this you will be a self-motivated, enthusiastic and articulate person with the ability to work across sites and with a diverse range of stakeholders and harness the enthusiasm of your team to deliver more. Main duties of the job

  • To be the responsible ICT System Manager for specific highly specialised Trust-wide support services including the Trust’s Central Information Lifecycle Management and Archiving System (ILM);
  • To undertake network storage services/server architecture development and manage/implement related departmental projects as defined and agreed from time to time;
  • To regularly externally research and review/audit the status of Trust-wide data and voice network services in order to identify, document and report on what could be complex technical issues that may impact operational effectiveness and the efficient delivery of the ICT Service;
  • To provide specialist technical advice, guidance and support to the ICT Security Manager and ICT Operations Manager on all aspects of voice and data network, Data Storage Security, including backup/restore architectures, strategies and implementation.
  • Primarily be responsible for the operation and support of Video distribution on the network e.g Video Conferencing and multicasting.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance Trust’s Data Infrastructure and information systems example email system, firewall for internet connection, file and print services and desktop assets.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a Team providing a specialist-level technical support, advice and guidance service to the ICT department to ensure the cost‑effective, efficient availability and operation of ICT networked servers, systems and services can be maintained to required service levels;
  • Act as a lead technical specialist on ILM by providing/receiving/analysing what may be highly complex technical/commercial information, giving expert advice and guidance on networked service issues as raised by Users, other IT Support Staff, ICT Management, external suppliers and support organisations;
  • Regularly review/monitor central server disaster recovery/back‑up/restore processes and procedures, advising/documenting to ICT management on any identified operational and strategic issues or requirements;
  • Act as a lead specialist in managing the Trust’s multisite Data Network and management system;
  • Monitor emerging archive and storage technologies, Data Network equipment and advise ICT Management on/recommend required changes to strategy/policy/procedures as may be necessary;
  • Undertake regular testing, evaluation and adaptation/modification of both existing hardware and software products and new installations;
  • Undertake technical skills and knowledge training for operational support Staff at all levels as may be required for staff and skills mix development purposes in ICT;
  • Enhance ICT’s reputation by consistently acting in a professional, approachable manner and ensuring the highest integrity at all times;
  • Manage/implement/document specifically agreed small ICT Network Services projects from inception to completion;
  • Assist the responsible System Manager of the key Trust‑wide Exchange Email Servers and other essential ICT User Support Servers including the Active Directory Services, The Windows System Update Server, the System Management Server and the Trust wide Video Conferencing solutions.

The System Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining the suitability for purpose, effective performance, availability and security of the systems under control.

People Management and Performance

  • Lead, coach and manage the performance of the team in line with good people management practices. Ensuring excellence is recognised and underperformance is addressed.
  • Participate in regular performance appraisal meetings and ensure each member of the team has a clear set of objectives and development plans.
  • Ensure the team is compliance with all statutory, mandatory training together with any professional training requirements, ensuring they are up to date and fully compliant.
  • Manage team absences including sickness in line with Trust policy ensuring the appropriate return to work meetings occur, e‑roster is updated and productivity is at keep to the highest possible level.
  • Identify and fill any vacancies that arise within the team in line with the Trust’s recruitment policy and process.
  • Identify talent and support the internal talent management process in order attract and retain and succession plan for your people.
  • Review skills mix at regular intervals in order to identify any potential opportunities to maximise resource utilisation / allocation, ensuring job descriptions are kept up to date.
  • Ensure overall wellbeing of the team is maintained.
  • Continuously support in improving the morale of the team and implementing a culture of zero‑tolerance for bullying and harassment.

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

  • Educated to MSc Degree level in a relevant ICT discipline, with experience in a similar role to this. Extensive experience may be taken into account in lieu of a formal Degree.
  • Suitable experience must be in the ICT discipline, preferably in Network and Desktop support at a complex level.
  • The ability to demonstrate extensive skills and knowledge as an ICT Support Specialist.
  • Any Microsoft Certification Professionally qualified in relevant CISCO or equivalent product specialities, must be valid.
  • Experience and knowledge of working in an NHS environment.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Expert in-depth knowledge of Windows OS, network infrastructure, networked host computers, their configuration, uses, administration, support and maintenance and providing highly specialised support in a multi-protocol network services environment.
  • Highly self‑motivated, self‑starter.
  • Able to effectively interact and work at all levels with a wide range of professions including non‑technical users, senior managers, suppliers, contractors, facilities management and medical staff.

  • Demonstrable experience of providing specialist network operating systems support, in particular Microsoft.
  • Able to assess, test, modify, adapt and design hardware and software solutions to meet supplied specifications or other requirements.

  • Able to work effectively and independently, under pressure of deadlines and able to prioritise own workload and negotiate priorities.
