Heart Failure Clinical Fellow

The Heart Failure clinical fellow will be responsible for contributing, on a full‑time basis, to the clinical programme of the Heart Failure Unit and also providing, with other Cardiology SpRs, input to the General Cardiology service. They would join a team consisting of seven consultant cardiologists, four heart failure specialist nurses, heart failure subspecialty registrars and research registrars.

Main duties of the job:

• Shared responsibility with other colleagues for providing 24 hours, 7 days a week cover for the Unit on a rota basis; responsible also for covering colleagues’ periods of annual leave and short‑term sickness.
• Participation in Multi‑disciplinary Meetings.
• Contribution to audit and clinical governance programmes.
• Responsible for outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group management team.
• Contribute to the Care Group research interests in accordance with the Trust’s R&D framework.
• Contribute to the audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, clinical governance programmes and learning from deaths.
• Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s).

Qualifications:

• MRCP or equivalent.
• Full registration with GMC/GDC with License to Practice.
• PhD, MD (original research).
• Other degrees/qualifications.

Training and Experience:

• Proven experience in Cardiology, including on call.
• Competence in trans‑thoracic echocardiography.
• ALS (or equivalent) within 2 years.
• Research experience, presentations, publications.

Administration & Management and Leadership:

• Experience in day to day organization of cardiology services in a busy teaching hospital.
• Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Familiar with current structure of Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes.
• Management course and/or qualification.

Audit & quality improvement:

• Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit and quality improvement.
• Must be able to demonstrate ability to lead change.

Research:

• Experience of conducting or supporting clinical research.
• Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of cardiology.
• Publication of relevant review articles or case reports.

Teaching:

• Experience of undergraduate and post‑graduate teaching and exam preparation.
• Teaching skills course/qualification.

Legal and Professional Requirements:

• Appropriate UK professional registration.
