This is a permanent, full-time position (40 hours per week / 10 sessions per week) at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Site: King’s College Hospital (Denmark Hill), London.

Salary: £109,725 - £145,478 per annum excl. London Zone Allowance.

The post is a replacement Consultant role. The postholder will work within the multidisciplinary team to provide and develop neurodiagnostic and neurointerventional services, deliver acute and elective neuroradiology services, and contribute to teaching and training of junior staff. There is an expectation to participate in the general workload of the Care Group and to engage in teaching and research in line with the Trust’s priorities.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide a first-class clinical service and deliver high-quality care for patients.
  • Exercise effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty.
  • Sustain and develop teaching and research in conjunction with King’s College London / KHP.
  • Undertake work in accordance with the Trust’s procedures and operating policies.
  • Conduct clinical practice in line with contractual requirements and service plans.
  • Contribute to business plans and development strategies for the specialty, the Care Group or the Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality care to patients, including all treatment and management duties for the Care Group.
  • Share responsibility for 24/7 cover for the Unit on a rota basis, and cover colleagues’ leave and sickness as required.
  • Provide clinical supervision of junior medical/dental practitioners as a shared responsibility with other consultants.
  • Carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties; contribute to CPD and clinical governance.
  • Manage outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group.
  • Contribute to Care Group research activities within the Trust’s R&D framework.
  • Contribute to audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, Clinical Governance, and Learning from Deaths.
  • Contribute to the Care Group’s Business Plan and service developments with internal and external partners.
  • Work within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s).
  • Provide professional leadership for all staff in the specialty and promote education and training.
  • Promote staff productivity and job satisfaction, including involvement in the appraisal process for peers and junior colleagues.
  • Undertake Care Group management duties as agreed with the Care Group/Departmental Manager/Clinical Director.
  • Comply with infection prevention and control policies, including hand hygiene and environmental hygiene.
  • Prepare for and undertake protective interventions in line with evidence-based practice and patient safety.
  • Contribute to 7-day consultant-led services; participate in future developments as needed.
Person specificationQualifications
  • Full FRCR or equivalent
  • Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD)
Registration
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Name on GMC Specialist Register on appointment date
  • CCST or equivalent
Training and Experience
  • Wide experience in neuroradiology (diagnostic and interventional) with GMC training completion or CESR.
  • Previous experience as a consultant diagnostic/interventional neuroradiologist.
  • Experience in providing out-of-hours neurovascular cover, including mechanical thrombectomy.
Administration
  • Experience in day-to-day organisation of planned and out-of-hours services in a busy teaching hospital.
  • Proficiency with information technology and general computer skills.
  • Familiarity with the UK NHS structure and recent developments.
Management and Leadership
  • Demonstrated leadership within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Management course or qualification desirable.
Audit and Quality Improvement
  • Understanding of medical audit principles.
  • Experience in completing audit projects; audit publications are a plus.
Research and Publications
  • Experience in clinical research and publication of relevant articles or case reports.
  • Research experience in neuroradiology.
Teaching
  • Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and exam preparation.
  • Teaching skills course or qualification preferred.
