An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the operational clinical leadership team for the MSK and MCATS physiotherapy service as the operational lead role for a 7 month secondment to begin in September 2025. The post holder will be responsible for operational leadership and service development within the physiotherapy musculoskeletal service at Kings College Hospital, using problem-solving skills, developing and implementing strategy to ensure effective and productive service delivery. They will lead the clinical team of MSK physiotherapy staff across multiple sites and manage day to day operational issues as well as planning and delivery of the MSK, FCP and MCATS physiotherapy service.
Main duties of the job:
- To facilitate service delivery of high levels of patient satisfaction and take action to improve patient experience of the MSK and MCATS physiotherapy service at every opportunity.
- To monitor quality of service delivery and clinical outcomes and take action to improve quality where standards are not met.
- To be a physiotherapy clinical expert in the management of patients with musculoskeletal conditions for Kings College Hospital and provide expert clinical intervention for patients with musculoskeletal problems attending the Musculoskeletal Clinical Assessment & Treatment Service (MCATS) and fracture clinic, developing and using extended scope of practice as required.
- To use expert physiotherapy knowledge and advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide highly specialist support and advice to the physiotherapy musculoskeletal team, Rheumatologists, Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgeons, Sports Physician, Pain Team and other medical staff, and to manage own caseload of patients with highly complex conditions as an autonomous practitioner.
Patient Care:
- To work at an advanced level in the field of musculoskeletal physiotherapy by receiving referrals and independently assessing and treating own caseload of patients, ensuring evaluation and progression of treatment programmes to a high standard, and in line with National and Trust clinical guidelines, protocols and pathways where they exist.
- In conjunction with the Physiotherapy senior management, organise and manage specialist outpatient clinics for patients referred to the musculoskeletal physiotherapy service.
- To act as a first point of contact for patients referred to the musculoskeletal physiotherapy service, providing expert physiotherapy clinical intervention.
- To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of patients in your care.
- To ensure a high standard of clinical practice for patients under your management and to support more junior staff to do likewise.
- To have clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients as an autonomous practitioner, including those with highly complex and diverse conditions, and prioritise that work efficiently taking into account clinical and service priorities.

Education and Qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent in physiotherapy
- HCPC registered
- Working at M level
- Member of CSP
- Member of relevant special interest groups
Knowledge and Experience:
- In-depth understanding of a broad range of musculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions
- Highly specialist knowledge and experience of a wide range of approaches to the management of complex and chronic musculoskeletal conditions and treatment skills
- Has understanding of NHS structure and current issues including role of physiotherapist in the evolving health environment
- Able to describe means of monitoring and ensuring quality, efficacy and productivity of MSK Physiotherapy service
- Significant post graduate experience in NHS In-patient orthopaedic experience
Skills:
- Able to analyse and interpret a range of complex facts
