Job Summary
Senior Clinical Fellow in Haematology Diagnostics (including liaison haematology) with opportunities for haemato‑oncology diagnostics or coagulation/thrombosis, within the Department of Haematological Medicine at King’s College Hospital. Non‑training post, offering supervised supplementary training for candidates at or toward the end of their haematology training.
Detailed responsibilities
- Provide medical support to the Haematology laboratory in the Blood Sciences Laboratory, including reviewing and reporting blood films as requested by biomedical scientists.
- Liaise with General Practitioners to facilitate timely investigation and review of patients.
- Perform and report bone marrow aspirates.
- Report immunophenotyping under supervision within the HMDS.
- Review patients in a weekly consultative clinic in the chosen area (General Haematology or Thrombosis/Anticoagulation).
- Support existing trainees in reviewing inpatient referrals for suspected haematological conditions and in haemostasis and thrombosis advice.
- Participate in clinical trials activity.
Person Specification – Qualifications and Training
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
- MBBS/MB ChB or equivalent qualification.
- FRCPath or equivalent.
Experience and Skills
- Evidence of training and experience in clinical and laboratory haematology.
- Ability to take responsibility for delivering service under supervision.
- Knowledge and experience of the relevant specialty.
- Broad range of IT skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues, pathology staff and support staff.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
- Understanding of clinical governance and participation in CPD.
- Experience of teaching medical students and supervising trainee haematologists.
- Knowledge of research principles and evidence of involvement in research.
