Key Responsibilities
- Work as an integral member of the Haematology multidisciplinary team across all clinical areas.
- Support the delivery of high‑quality non‑clinical patient services.
- Play a key role in infection prevention and control, audits, and quality assurance.
- Work closely with infection control teams, contractors and support services.
- Monitor quality standards and ensure any deficiencies are addressed promptly.
- Decontamination monitoring across all areas, ensuring non‑ward equipment is kept visibly clean and stored safely for reprocessing.
- Log additional equipment in use on the wards and liaise with Medirest for weekly environmental inspection.
- Monitor ward equipment checks for visible decontamination (e.g., commodes, suction, drip stands).
- Deliver regular education to ward staff on correct decontamination methods.
- Maintain a safe and tidy department by removing clutter, tidying notice boards and signage.
- Identify cleanliness issues and report them to the Divisional Supervisor, Ward Manager or Matron.
- Ensure specialist cleaning of surfaces and furnishings.
- Identify patients with infection due for discharge and oversee appropriate cleaning of isolation areas.
- Keep alcohol gel containers filled and maintain catering standards.
- Provide eating assistance and manage hot/cold beverages in accordance with policy.
- Maintain a pleasant environment for patients when food and beverages are served.
- Liaise with nursing staff to notify catering of new admissions, transfers and discharges.
- Co‑ordinate extra meal requirements and monitor catering standards.
- Participate in audits and use environmental checklists as requested.
- Report environmental repairs and follow up outstanding work.
- Inform Line Managers of outcomes of monitoring and agree action plans.
- Log, report, record and close requests through the Housekeeping Monitoring Form; facilitate room preparation for admissions and discharges.
- Co‑ordinate ad hoc maintenance, liaising with the helpdesk as required.
- Transport clinical, domestic and confidential waste to the disposal area (Dirty Utility) as per policy.
- Minimise the potential for adverse behaviour and security breaches.
- Communicate effectively with ward sisters, nurses, bed managers and receptionists, using the e‑EPIC system.
- Convey information verbally and in writing to ensure clarity and understanding.
- Maintain paper‑based records and information as required.
- Respond to general information requests and maintain confidentiality.
- Use communication skills to manage abusive or aggressive behaviour.
- Receive complaints and ensure relevant departments (PALS & Patient Services) are notified.
- Implement new policies and standards, including Food Hygiene, Waste Categorisation, Infection Control and Cleaning.
