King’s College Hospital is seeking an experienced and dedicated Band 6 Midwife to join our supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity for a midwife with a deep understanding of the emotional and physical aspects of bereavement care, committed to delivering high-quality care for families who experience the loss of a baby at any stage of pregnancy or soon after birth. Main duties of the job In this role the post holder will: Assist in the day to day running of the maternity/gynaecology department bereavement services. Deliver high quality, evidence-based and family centred bereavement care. Work effectively as part of the immediate team and wider multi-disciplinary team (MDT). Have clear and effective communication skills. Act as a professional role model. Detailed job description and main responsibilities KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Delivering a high standard of evidence-based care to patients. Assist the midwifery/nursing team in providing an identifiable, accessible, confidential and professional bereavement service. Act as a coordinating contact point enabling women to easily access bereavement follow on care and support. Engage with women to support them through their difficult experiences. Meet with bereaved relatives/carers and provide advice and support as required. Advise relatives of help available to them from organizations like SANDS and counselling services. Ensure correct completion of paperwork by staff within the bereavement pathway. Provide support and debriefing to staff and women affected by bereavement. Involve and support patients, relatives, carers, and friends in the care process. Promote well-being and involve patients and relatives in health education. Maintain clinical policies and protocols relevant to the area, ensuring evidence-based practice. Act independently while being managed rather than supervised. Ensure good standards of care for the patient are maintained at all times. Adhere to NMC Code of Professional conduct at all times. Ensure clear and accurate written and verbal information is given at all times. Maintain contemporaneous record keeping. Seek advice from more senior/experienced members of staff where appropriate. Work in accordance with the Trust Policies and Procedures. Person specification Registered midwife with active NMC registration Essential and desirable Experience of dealing with bereavement / social support. Ability to communicate and negotiate in difficult situations. Ability to adapt to meet changing needs and work under pressure. Interest in developing knowledge of the clinical speciality and own practice. Able to manage patients\' emotional needs and demonstrate empathy and caring. Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members. Proven record in teaching/mentoring/supervising others.
