Clinical Research Fellow in Renal Medicine

Fixed term: 12 months – Full time – 40 hours per week

The post holder will contribute to the safe and effective delivery of clinical research studies within the Clinical Research Facility. The role will particularly focus on the recruitment, support, and engagement of people of African and/or Afro-Caribbean ancestry, with and without kidney disease, to ensure inclusive participation in clinical trials.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct research assessments and procedures in line with approved clinical trial protocols.
  • Provide safe and professional care to participants, including those with chronic kidney disease.
  • Obtain informed consent and ensure participants fully understand their involvement.
  • Perform and interpret clinical assessments, order, review, and act upon investigations as required by study protocols.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with participants, particularly from African and Afro-Caribbean communities.
  • Ensure communication is culturally sensitive, inclusive, and accessible.
  • Lead, coach and manage the performance of the team in line with good people management practices.
  • Participate in regular performance appraisal meetings and ensure each member of the team has a clear set of objectives and development plans.

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

  • Full GMC Registration
  • MBBS (or equivalent)
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certificate

Essential Knowledge & Experience

  • Knowledge and understanding of CKD and APOL1
  • Experience in MDT working
  • Knowledge in IT e.g. MS Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point etc
  • Experience in Clinical Research
  • Experience of working with and recruiting participants to clinical research
  • Knowledge and experience of working in a culturally sensitive manner with people of African and Afro-Caribbean backgrounds

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Able to cope with a busy and demanding working environment

Desirable

  • Phlebotomy and cannulation
