Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

This clinical lead role will work with the multidisciplinary team to ensure an excellent standard of physiotherapy is delivered to acute paediatric patients at King’s College Hospital. The post holder will supervise the paediatric physiotherapy staff, hold an inpatient clinical caseload, oversee and, as required, deliver outpatient clinics.

They will be responsible for ongoing teaching and development to the therapy and MDT and assist in the development of the wider MDT as part of the Children’s Therapy team.

Education and Qualification

Essential Criteria

  1. To have a degree or other recognised qualification in Physiotherapy
  2. Working at a Masters level, as demonstrated by ongoing CPD (including M level), evidence-based project work, external post graduate lecturing
  3. HCPC Registered
  4. Postgraduate training and experience in the clinical specialities of paediatrics and/or infants

Desirable Criteria

  1. Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)
  2. MSc in a clinically relevant or related area
  3. Management / Leadership Training
  4. Member of relevant clinical network or interest group

Knowledge and Experience

Essential Criteria

  1. Significant post graduate paediatric experience including some or all of: paediatric acute respiratory, PICU, NIV & Long Term Ventilation, post-surgical, neurodevelopment, neurology, NIV, Major Trauma, musculoskeletal and orthopaedics
  2. Specialist experience in the management of either acute respiratory paediatrics including PICU; or acute neurology & rehabilitation of paediatric patients
  3. Highly specialist knowledge and experience of a wide range of treatment modalities and approaches to the management of both acute and chronic conditions associated with the specialties & the impact of these on childhood development
  4. Specialist experience in early intervention
  5. Robust knowledge and experience of Clinical Governance and its implications for own practice and the physiotherapy service

  1. Experience of participating in or leading research
  2. Management / Leadership training and experience

Skills and Competencies

Essential Criteria

  1. Competent to manage physiotherapy needs of acute paediatric patients
  2. Understanding of specific risks and complexities surrounding respiratory physiotherapy service provision in paediatrics
  3. Competent to implement rehabilitation and developmental care strategies
  4. Trained & competent in acute paediatric specific assessments, treatments and outcome measures for a range of conditions
  5. Skilled in risk identification and management including MDT liaison and decision making, policy and escalation processes
  6. Able to demonstrate continuing professional development at a post graduate level e.g. up to date CPD portfolio, reflective practice and training received
