In response to its continued growth and success and to provide the highest level of service to members and clients, Kings Chambers is now seeking an additional highly motivated, organised and committed individual to work with our progressive and dynamic clerking team as a Junior Civil Clerk. The objective of the role is to assist the clerking team in ensuring the seamless flow and management of work whilst providing the highest standards of client care. This is an interesting and varied position in a fast-paced working environment requiring skill and organisation to be able to prioritise appropriately. Attention to detail with a keen eye for accuracy is essential. This role is based in our Manchester Chambers.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Use of LEX case & diary management system
  • Processing instructions and briefs
  • Managing and forwarding papers to counsel
  • Fee Assessment and sending of fee notes
  • Working alongside other Clerks
  • Taking bookings for counsel over the phone
  • Chasing papers from professional clients
  • Organising of couriers for counsel where appropriate
  • Checking court lists and daily communication with courts
  • Working at our other Chambers locations ad-hoc when required

Person Specification:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to communicate confidently and efficiently in a corporate setting, both written and orally is essential
  • The ability to develop and maintain strong internal relationships at all levels
  • Well‑developed influencing skills whilst remaining diplomatic, pragmatic and sensitive
  • Co‑ordination and prioritisation of workflow, troubleshooting and the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Strong level of IT literacy including databases and common office systems (e.g. Excel, Word, email- Outlook)
  • Professional and smart presentation and a willingness to learn and to work to tight and often competing deadlines
  • Capacity to thrive in a small team environment and is a team player who gets on well with colleagues
  • Take personal responsibility for delivering agreed objectives and pride in delivering a high quality service
  • Ideally a proven track record in a similar role or alternatively a graduate or experience of working within the professional services sector
