Kingdown School is looking to appoint a highly skilled Second in Science and Physics specialist to join its dynamic Science Department, with effect from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key part in shaping the direction and success of physics within the department, working closely with the Head of Science to develop teaching, learning and the curriculum.
Kingdown School is a co-educational, non-denominational secondary school and sixth form, educating young people between the ages of 11 and 18 years. We have a strong reputation in the local community and beyond, built on an unswerving focus on the quality of teaching and learning and great pastoral care. Ranked in the top 10 secondary schools in Wiltshire, our school is located in the charming garrison town of Warminster, with excellent links to Salisbury, Bath, Bristol and the South-West. The successful candidate will be passionate about helping all young people to believe, aspire and achieve, and be able to teach Science / Physics across the full age and ability range, up to A Level. QTS status is essential for the role.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is an experienced teacher committed to delivering excellence;
- Has experience in or is willing to take on a secondary leadership responsibility;
- Has a passion for Physics with strong expertise in the subject;
- Can teach a broad range of engaging and effective lessons that motivate, inspire and improve student attainment;
- Can work with the Head of Science to lead and develop the department to help drive standards of achievement and progress and student engagement;
- Can plan and deliver lessons and sequences of lessons to the highest standard that ensure real learning takes place and students make superior progress;
- Is able to raise attainment and challenge students to achieve their best;
- Has a commitment to extra-curricular activities;
- Is aware of current initiatives in physics and has excellent knowledge of the subject and programmes of study across all Key Stages;
- Is an effective team member who can contribute positively to the work in our Science Department and is capable of supporting the development of colleagues;
- Has a positive, cheerful outlook with a good sense of humour;
- Is able to forge good relationships with students and staff;
- Has a desire to work within the Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) structure.
