Job Description
The LGV C Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods using large goods vehicles within agreed timeframes. The role involves the loading and unloading of cargo, conducting vehicle safety checks, and ensuring compliance with relevant transportation and health and safety regulations. The post holder must uphold high standards of professionalism, customer service, and operational accuracy throughout all duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive large goods vehicles (LGV C) 26 tonne, safely and responsibly on designated routes, adhering to all traffic laws and company policies.
- Load and unload goods carefully, ensuring cargo is secure and handled with care to prevent damage.
- Conduct daily vehicle checks in accordance with company procedures and report any defects or maintenance needs promptly.
- Maintain accurate delivery paperwork, including delivery notes, logs, and any required compliance documentation.
- Communicate effectively with despatch teams and customers to confirm delivery schedules and resolve any issues.
- Manage time efficiently to meet delivery deadlines and maintain planned schedules.
- Follow health and safety policies to ensure a safe working environment for self and others.
- Keep the vehicle clean and in good working order at all times.
- Comply with all relevant transportation legislation, including weight restrictions and working time regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Valid LGV C driving licence with relevant category entitlement.
- Current Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) or equivalent qualification.
- Valid Digital Tachograph Card.
- Up-to-date Driver Qualification Card (DQC).
Education
- Minimum of National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 2 in Driving Goods Vehicles or equivalent is preferred.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills to complete necessary documentation accurately.
Experience
- Previous experience as an LGV C driver within the logistics or distribution sector is essential.
- Experience in loading and unloading goods safely and efficiently.
- UK Wide delivery experience.
- 2 years on LGV Class C licence (Insurance purposes)
- Age 25 (Insurance purposes).
Knowledge and Skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of road safety regulations and transportation laws applicable to LGV operations.
- Good understanding of vehicle maintenance and safety checks.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Effective communication skills to liaise with customers and internal teams.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail in completing documentation and following procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ideally previous steel experience
- Previous experience using digital route planning and tracking systems.
Working Conditions
- Full-time hours with flexibility to work early mornings from 0400,0500 hours, overtime paid before 0800 and after 1630
- Work primarily outdoors and inside the vehicle, exposed to varying weather conditions.
- Physical demands include manual handling of goods and prolonged periods of driving.
- Compliance with all company health and safety policies and procedures.
- Nights out upto 2/3 per week.£ 26.20 per night out.
