Job Description

The Machine Operator/FLT is responsible for operating and maintaining machinery within a manufacturing environment, ensuring production targets are met whilst adhering to health and safety standards.

The role includes the loading, unloading, and movement of materials using a forklift truck, maintaining product quality and efficiency throughout the production process.

Previous steel industry experience is beneficial.

  • Operate production machinery safely and efficiently according to established procedures and instructions.
  • Load and unload materials using a forklift truck in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Carry out routine inspections and maintenance checks on machinery to ensure optimal performance.
  • Monitor production output and quality, reporting any defects or issues to the relevant team.
  • Maintain accurate records of production activities and machine performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety policies and procedures, including the safe operation of forklift equipment.
  • Assist with the organisation and storage of materials in the warehouse or production area.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Work cooperatively with team members to meet production deadlines and quality standards.
  • Required Qualifications
  • Valid forklift truck (FLT) counterbalance operator certificate or licence.
  • Basic understanding of machinery operation within a manufacturing setting.

Education

  • Minimum of GCSEs or equivalent qualifications in English and Mathematics.

Experience

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment operating machinery.
  • Proven experience in operating a forklift truck safely and efficiently.
