As a Technical Support Chemist, you’ll provide technical support, customer training and instrument installation support for laboratories across the UK, with occasional international travel. This highly varied role combines laboratory science, troubleshooting, customer interaction and instrumentation support. You’ll work closely with customers to ensure instruments are installed, maintained and operating effectively, while also supporting method development and technical demonstrations.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out onsite and virtual instrument installations and customer training
- Provide technical troubleshooting support via phone and email
- Support development of analytical methods and laboratory applications
- Assist with instrument and software testing
- Create customer documentation and user procedures
- Support diagnostics, servicing and maintenance of instrumentation
- Advise customers on instrumentation, methods and applications
- Assist technical sales teams with demonstrations and customer support
- Support conferences, exhibitions and technical events
- Work on customer-focused technical projects and improvements
What you’ll need
- Degree in Chemistry or a closely related scientific discipline
- Strong analytical chemistry laboratory experience
- Excellent communication and customer‑facing skills
- Ability to troubleshoot technical and scientific issues
- A proactive and organised approach to work
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively across the UK
Desirable
- Experience within water or wastewater laboratories
- Familiarity with techniques such as BOD, COD, metals analysis, colorimetric nutrient analysis
- Experience with flow analysers (FIA/SFA) or laboratory robotics
- Experience supporting laboratory instrumentation or scientific equipment
