Are you a hands-on Production Technician or Operative with experience working on automated machinery? Do you enjoy fault finding, keeping machines running efficiently and working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment? We’re supporting a well-established, global manufacturing business in Portsmouth who is continuing to grow and invest in their people, technology and facilities. They’re now looking to expand their Production Technician team across both early and late shifts.
What’s the role all about? As a Production Technician, you’ll be responsible for setting, running and maintaining special purpose automated machinery across multiple manufacturing areas. You’ll play a key role in ensuring production targets are met, quality standards are maintained and machines are operating at optimal performance. This is a varied, hands-on role where you’ll also have the opportunity to be cross-trained across different departments and develop your technical skills.
Key responsibilities
- Set and operate special purpose automated machinery
- Fault find and support the repair of machinery and equipment
- Carry out first-off, in-process and last-off inspections
- Work from technical drawings and specifications
- Use CMM and measuring equipment to ensure product quality
- Operate vision systems for in-process quality control
- Process work through ERP systems
- Carry out patrol inspections to identify defects
- Monitor machine utilisation and support efficiency improvements
- Log faults using maintenance systems and support breakdown resolution
- Maintain 5S standards and FOD control within the production area
- Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams to optimise performance
What you’ll need to succeed in this role:
- Experience in a manufacturing or production environment
- Mechanical aptitude and interest in working with machinery
- Experience using manual tools
- Ability to follow technical drawings and instructions
- Strong attention to detail and quality awareness
- Ability to work to targets and KPIs
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Experience with automated machinery, CMM or ERP systems would be advantageous but not essential.
